Political Corruption In Illinois

Unfortunately, political corruption is a reality in certain offices of America, as it is everywhere else. Today's news about Illinois Gov. Blagojevich's stunning and reprehensible behavior is the latest tragedy.

Here in Tennessee, we have had our own brush with a Governor abusing his power. Tennessee Governor Ray Blanton was removed in 1979 by both houses of the legislature, the Speaker and the Lt. Governor in favor of seating the new Gov. Lamar Alexander three days early, amid charges of selling pardons. He was later convicted on selling liquor licenses.

Blagojevich's story, like Tennessee's Blanton, is a shock to our sensibilities and an outrage. It's also a warning to both political parties and should be heeded by Republicans at every level of government. Integrity isn't a brand, it is a code of honor. And our Party should always be associated with it.

yes a travesty to a variety of groups occurred in illinois. thank you mr saltsman for your wise reminders.

all elected officials must have integrity and honor and of course the most important is being as transparent as the law allows.

Integrity must always be a part of the political process. Unfortunately, corruption permeates our society today and until people begin to insist on ethical conduct in every day life I am afraid that political corruption, like all other corruption, will remain with our society. Chip has stated it very well.
